Eye Level - 5/10/2007

I'm a great believer in luck, and I find the harder I work the more I have of it. ~ Thomas Jefferson
The mind is not a vessel to be filled, but a fire to be kindled. ~ Plutarch
The answer is staring you in the face. ~ Cliche

For two years, I have been taking Argentine Tango classes, and up to a month ago, literally I could not take a single step. Talk about a slow learner. Every time I tried to step forward, I stepped on my partner.

Somehow, recently I figured out, because I am tall, I look down at my partner, which tilts my head forward and throws me off balance keeping me from being able to lead properly. To keep my head up, I started watching a point on the wall at my eye level.

As soon as I kept my head up, finally, after two years, like a miracle, I was able to start to dance Argentine Tango. What a relief. I am still not good, but now at least, I can get better.

The other night, I picked up a book that I had checked out of the library months ago - yes it is over due. The book is called "Social Dance, Steps to Success" by Judy Patterson Wright. I had read half the book before, but decided to start over. Here is an excerpt from the beginning:

"The purpose of Step 1 is to increase your awareness of correct body posture. ... Look forward with your head erect (it is helpful to look at object that is at eye level)"

The answer to my problem was on the first page of chapter one and I read it.

What is up with that. How often are we blind to the answers to our problems.
